The article presents information on the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and its promotion of human rights and democratic governance among African countries. The OAU existed after the achievement of independence among the states in Africa, for the reason of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and protection against the threats of colonialism within the continent. Primarily, OAU's major purpose is to drive off colonialism and to gain independence. Although, democracy and human rights was not easily gained by OAU, the organization was able to resolve this issue and they were able to promote democracy and human rights in general. |
