With the growing appeal for technology in learning environments, opportunities for distance education in marriage and family therapy programs are being recognized as essential for expanding training and teaching experience to students, teachers, and practicing clinicians. The authors will describe a total on-line graduate level course on Supervision Methods and Practice in marriage and family therapy education. The course expanded learning beyond the classroom for students who wished to learn more about supervision contracts evaluation and record keeping, models of supervision, ethical dilemmas in supervision, and developmental, biological, socio-cultural, gender, and family of origin issues in regard to supervision practice. This course created a new opportunity to a) bring technology into supervision training, b) utilize creative teaching through web-based technology, c) bring colleagues together who would have otherwise been isolated due to proximity, and d) extend training to dedicated practitioners who lacked in supervision methodology and practice.
