Abstrakt: | The article presents facts and theories regarding the undercover operations of the confidential informant (V-Mann) for the Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo) during the Nazi period in Germany. The author provides a historical account of the ways in which he received the empirical information on the Gestapo files and relates the standards used in evaluating the information. The author analyzes the nature of the threats that were used by the Gestapo to secure confidential collaboration and discusses the main groups of potential collaborators. |
