Abstrakt: The article discusses the study done in dogs on cardiac arrhythmias following intravenous nicotine. Nicotine is said to generate cardiac arrhythmias that may cause sudden death due to smoking. Nicotine reportedly used in 16 dogs and 52 experiments were carried out. Results showed nonsignificant arrhythmias with doses of 2.5, 5.0, and 10.0 mg/kg of nicotine. The study showed dose-dependent arrhythmogenecity of nicotine in dogs, while smaller doses of nicotine will not produce arrhythmias, higher doses may do so.
