Abstrakt: The concept of developmental time is proposed as a method for organizing family therapy interventions. Developmental time is the point in the family life cycle that a family expects to be occupying given the age and stage of its members. We promote alterations in the normative time frame by encouraging family members to relive previous developmental transitions or enact anticipated ones in the here-and-now of the therapy session. Alterations in the family's time orientation can promote changes in the family's relational context and, in turn, the basic premises and interactional patterns by which they have been operating.
