The article offers information on the political and economic conditions in Portugal and offers an outlook for 2008-2009. In 2008-2009, it is expected that fiscal policy will remain tight. It is estimated that real gross domestic product growth (GDP) accelerated from 1.3% in 2006 to 1.8% in 2007. During the month of September 2007, the rate of unemployment increased to 8.3% after attaining an average of 7.9% in the second quarter of 2007. |
