The article provides an overview of the political outlook for Turkey for 2008-2009. The Economist Intelligence Unit emphasizes the participation of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) headed by prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the promotion of European Union (EU) membership and economic reform. Moreover, the country expects much the contribution of the AKP in the promotion of its national security. |
