Abstrakt:	This article discusses the role of the world health community in providing access to a vaccine after the emergence of epidemic meningitis in Burkina Faso. The authors focus on the strategy of the World Health Organization and the public-private partnership that produced the vaccine that has become part of national immunization programs in the African meningitis belt countries. The role of GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals in producing the vaccine is discussed as well as assistance by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
