The article discusses the properties of Mersenne and Fermat numbers. It describes the propositions regarding Mersenne and Fermat numbers using proofs found in mathematical textbooks and using the theory of Lucas sequences. The article also discusses Lucas sequences to find the primality of Sophie German primes. It provides a new conjecture on Mersenne prime numbers and a description on applying Mersenne numbers to primality testing. The article also provides an overview of the history of Mersenne and Fermat numbers including a discussion on Father Marin Mersenne and Pierre de Fermat. |
