Making livelihoods more sustainable.

Abstrakt: The article presents information on sustainable livelihoods (SL). The concept of SL has emerged with growing legitimization through several major international fora including the World Summit for Social Development. Sustainable human development, offering both a policy and a programming framework for poverty reduction in a sustainable manner in possible through SL approach. The SL concept is currently applied by governments, non-governmental organizations, donors and communities. Various tools and methodologies have been developed for the design, implementation and evaluation of SL programs at the country level. The United Nations Development Programme, bilateral partners, development banks, foundations, research institutions, policy think-tanks and civil society organizations are planning to make a global shift to a SL approach for poverty reduction.
