Abstrakt: The article discusses the results of a survey concerning the state and sustainability of minerals education in the U.S. conducted in January 2007. It also provided a summary of the current conditions relating to mining and mineral engineering faculty. In the 1990s, an educational committee has been established by the Mining and Metallurgy Society of America to explore ways on how the industry could preserve key programs necessary to provide future professionals. Such effort culminated in the first of the Engineering Education sessions to be held at the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) Annual Meetings. The survey revealed slow progress among mining and mineral schools. A degree of resilience in the mining schools was also revealed by the 2007 and 2004 surveys.
