Abstrakt: The article examines the implications of the implementation of the standards movement in contemporary public school curriculum in the U.S. It explains that the attempt to standardize knowledge and skills ignores the cultural complexity of a pluralistic society. It asserts that the accountability/standardized assessment movement that does not engage with issues of culture, ethnicity and economic status continues to hinder efforts to improve education for students of color.
