Abstrakt: The article describes and analyzes the series of weavings made by Charlene Nemec-Kessel. Details of how Nemec-Kessel depicted the women in her embroidered portraits are outlined. The influence of still-life painting in the woven portraits made by Nemec-Kessel is explored. The artist uses luxurious bright fabric that make the borders of her woven works look like carpets. She uses a 16-harness computer-driven loom in making her art works. Information on the influence of western medieval and Renaissance tapestries on the weavings of Nemec-Kessel is provided.
