The article discusses research by the Research Units on Pediatric Psychopharmacology (RUPP) Autism Network on the safety and efficacy of risperidone for the treatment of behavioral problems in children with autism. The methodology of the study is discussed. The research revealed that risperidone is safe and effective for the short-term treatment of serious behavioral disorders in children with autism. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of risperidone for the treatment of behavioral disorders. |
