Abstrakt: The article explores the relationship between perceptions of the social and community environment (also known as Protective Social Factors) and physical activity. A national sample of 1,818 U.S. adults were interviewed through telephone. There was a 12% increased likelihood of meeting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/American College of Sports Medicine recommendations after a 10 point rise in Protective Social Factors (PSF) scores. The study also found out that greater perceived PSFs were linked with meeting the said recommendations among White Americans but not among African Americans.
