Abstrakt: The article presents a discussion about the Scottish periodical "Blackwood's" put out by William Blackwood and the formation of a Scottish national identity. The author contends that "Blackwood's" put forward the cultural values of Scottish patriotism, Protestant Christian classical learning, and various polemics against the dominant ideology that formed the basis for the search for cultural roots and a national identity.
