Abstrakt: This article presents an update to "Sexually Transmitted Diseases Treatment Guidelines, 2006," put out by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which explains that fluoroquinolones are no longer recommended to treat gonococcal infections. The article explains that previously, fluoroquinolones were used to treat gonorrhea because they were readily available and they were convenient because they could be taken orally. However, changes in treatment have become necessary because Neisseria gonorrhoeae is becoming more and more resistant to fluoroquinolones.
