The article discusses the issues of low compensation and high accreditation and education costs which are affecting addiction counselors, educators and other addiction-focused healthcare professionals in the U.S. These issues are reflected in a survey of clinicians in 2003 supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and a study by the Lewis Group in 2004. |
