The article reports on the progress in hepatitis B prevention through universal infant vaccination in China for the period of 1997-2006. The incidence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in China is discussed. The efforts to make hepatitis B vaccine (HepB) more affordable and free in China are described. The estimated number of chronic HBV infections and HBV-related deaths prevented during 2003-2006 is given. |
