The article profiles Edwin L. Carstensen, recipient of the Helmholtz-Rayleigh Interdisciplinary Silver Medal in Biomedical Ultrasound/Bioresponse to Vibration and Physical Acoustics. He became the director of one of the graduating programs in the emerging field of biomedical engineering. He was also among the first to demonstrate the use of ultrasound for noninvasive thermal tissue destruction. |
