In situ emission profiles of AlGaInP multiple quantum well laser diodes (LDs) observed by a near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM) showed that intact aperture probe did not couple with the lasing TE00 mode, indicating mat the probe would couple with a longitudinal near-field. Emissions around the lasing region was detected by the NSOM, and they showed sharp peaks in the emission spectrum that may be ascribed to amplified spontaneous emissions located at wavelengths far from those of the multimode emissions. These near-field modes may therefore be non-radiating, only detectable by the NSOM. Using an intentionally enlarged aperture, each of the longitudinal multimodes was resolved spatially within an elliptic emission region. © 2007 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
