Abstrakt: The article cites that the search for biological underpinnings of abnormal human behavior and the study of the efficacy and mechanism of action of biological treatments are both contingent on the use of standardized diagnoses and objective measurement in psychiatric diagnosis. In psychopathology, the terms "objective" and "subjective" are used to qualify behavioral phenomena and to indicate methods used to collect and measure these phenomena. Data collection and measurement may be said to be objective if they are minimally influenced either by the patient who exhibits and reports the phenomena, or by the investigator who registers them.
