The article presents experiences of researchers and teachers about their interaction with children on poverty and other social issues. A teacher named Kathy taught at an emergency shelter school where she gave a forum to children to share their experiences with poverty. She observed that children expressed their experiences through writing, group discussion and many more. One of her students named Justin used to take bits of food at snack time and accumulate it in case the shelter ran out of food stamps. Another teacher named Jane taught primary-age children in a Title 1 school. Jane started using books which deal with discrimination and hatred. |
