The adult adjustment of persons institutionalized as children.

Abstrakt: The article presents a study on the adult adjustment of children brought up in foundling homes or other child care institutions in Great Britain. The subjects of the study were children cared for in foundling homes and born to schizophrenic mothers; children also cared for in such homes but born to parents who had no known history of psychiatric disorder; born to schizophrenic mothers but did not go to such homes; and, children born to parents with no known history of mental illness and did not go to a child care institution. Results showed no differences in psychiatric disability, intelligence quotient or overall psycho-social adjustment.
