Abstrakt: The article discusses the changes in the character of admissions to the mental hospitals in Scotland from 1945 to 1959. The records of the 3,151 admissions to Dingleton Hospital from January 1945 to December 1959 were used as samples for examination. Results show that the annual number of admissions tripled, while the number of first admissions doubled. Meanwhile, the proportion of voluntary admissions has reached 80%. Also, the increase in admissions is attributed to all ages, while the proportion of admissions who were married increased to 50%.
