The article examines the occurrence of suicidal feelings in the general population of a psychiatric facility in Great Britain. Under the study, a population sample of 720 psychiatric patients were surveyed and interviewed. The data obtained from the survey, and the prevalence of the suicidal phenomena and their relationships to other data that include demographic characteristics, psychiatric symptom, somatic illness, social adjustment and life stress are described. 8.9 percent of the patients reported suicidal feelings, one percent seriously considered suicide, while 0.6 percent made an actual suicide attempt. On the other hand, 3.5 percent reported that they felt that life is not worthwhile, while, 2.8 percent wished they were dead. Only one percent have no thought of taking their lives |
