The article presents the study about the clinical and family comparison of paranoid and non-paranoid schizophrenics. Sixty poor-prognosis schizophrenic probands and their first-degree relatives were systematically interviewed blindly with regard to the sub-types of the probands. Besides definitional differences, paranoid probands had a later age of onset and a shorter total duration of stay in hospital. Results showed that the only family differences between the two groups was a greater risk for the combination of schizophrenia, undiagnosed psychosis and paranoid personality in the non-paranoid group. |
