Abstrakt: The article presents a dialogue about social work practice in the addictions. It was discussed in the Summit on Social Work and the Neurobiology of Addictions that there is a resistance to incorporation of neuroscience into social work theory and practice. It cites the neurological considerations in the treatment of addictions. It comments on the move of social workers to drop the "bio" in the original biopsychosocial approach fostered by professional founders. It examines the concept of addiction as a genetically predisposed brain disorder.
