The author provides information on the remote chimpanzee communities in Uganda which he discovered during his visit to forests in the country. Nearly 5,000 chimpanzees are found in the country. Groundbreaking research in the country has made it an important center for expanding knowledge about chimpanzees. According to Debby Cox, executive director of Jane Goodall Institute, an estimated 200 to 400 chimpanzees in the country live in private forests. Cox believes that it was the government's gross underestimation of the chimp population in Kibale Forest National Park that accounted for the apparent population growth. |
