The article focuses on the organization of a personal counseling service in a non-residential liberal arts college in the U.S. and to support, on the basis of practice and theory, the philosophy that governed that organization. The college offers educational and vocational counseling through the office of the dean of students and the personal counseling service was introduced by the dean of students. The counseling service started six hours per week, given through the cooperation of the psychology department. It operates on the understanding that the personal problems of most students represented reactions of non-pathological personality to various stressful situations. Moreover, it was established to offer counseling and not psychotherapy to students. |
