Abstrakt: | The article deals with a genre of love poetry originating in premodern India called sandeśakāvya, or messenger poem. The genre links the emotions of love, separation, and the desire for reunion among beloved both in the natural world and in transfigured time, but is also marked by political and sectarian values. The author refers to what he calls the individual poet's religio-geocultural imaginaire, which reflects regional identity and royal or sectarian patronage. |
