Life-threatening electrolyte abnormalities.

Abstrakt: The article focuses on the clinical presentation and treatment of electrolyte abnormalities. Uncorrected electrolyte abnormalities may lead to paralysis, seizures, coma, cardiac and respiratory arrest. It is important to recognize and treat imbalances in the calcium, potassium, magnesium or sodium levels to reduce these complications. Treatments for hypocalcemia, hypercalcemia, hypokalemia, hyperkalemia, hypomagnesemia, hypermagnesemia, hyponatremia and hypernatremia are discussed.
