Abstrakt: There is a dearth of research that exclusively explores the lives and experiences of lesbian couples who conceived their children through the use of anonymous donor insemination-an option that has only recently become more widely available to lesbians. The question that guided this qualitative inquiry was: ‘How do lesbian couples with children conceived through the use of anonymous donor insemination live as, and experience, family?’ Interviews were conducted with 10 couples who self-identified as lesbian, chose to have their children while in their lesbian relationships, and conceived their children through the use of anonymous donor insemination. An interpretive interactionist analysis of the transcripts revealed that the following four thematic areas shaped, constructed, represented, and gave meaning to these unique family configurations: conception options of two women: two women parenting; anonymous donors/not fathers; and families with lesbian mothers. These are discussed in terms of their implications for therapists working with lesbian-led families. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
