Abstrakt: The article discusses the development and use of the CHecklist for Autism in Toddlers (CHAT). It is a screening instrument used to identify 18-month children who are at risk for autism. The development of the CHAT is due to the challenge in identifying a cost effective method to detect early signs of autism. The CHAT can only be administered by clinicians for the eighteen-month developmental check-up in which the child who fails the CHAT should undergo re-screening.
