Determines if the plasma norepinephrine (NE) increase in rats exposed to carbon dioxide asphyxia was due to adrenal gland release or sympathetic nerve ending (SNS) release. Plasma NE measured by high performance liquid chromatography; Ability of nitrogen to produce an increase in NE; Decrease in plasma levels with the addition of reserpine; Association with SNS release. |
