Abstrakt: The article provides a differential diagnosis of acute strokes which persist for more than 24 hours. It cites the importance of the initial clinical assessment of a patient with acute stroke. It details scoring methods that can be used to aid the clinical diagnosis of the type of lesion present in a patient with acute stroke. A potentially treatable cause of stroke is progressive carotid stenosis.
