Abstrakt: The article presents an analysis of the retail trade in Canada as of July 2006. An increase in sales by 1.5% to a record high $33 billion was noted, mainly due to the strength of the automotive sector. Oil prices grew by 3.7% thereby increasing the value of sales at gasoline stations. In the food and beverage sector, an increase of .8% was partially offset by a decline in beer, wine and liquor sector. All in all, retail sales grew by only .4% indicating that the month's growth was price driven.
