New 2,2′-thio-bis [4-methyl (2-amino phenoxy) phenyl ether] ( IV ) was synthesized. The structure of this compound was confirmed on IR, 1 H, and 13 C NMR data. A simple, efficient, and sensitive procedure is described for the spectrophotometric determination of a trace amount of Cd(II) or Co(II) in the presence of Zn(II) with this diamine.
