Abstrakt: The article presents a study which examined the physiological properties of the novel human β-defensin DEFB123 and its role in preventing lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-mediated effects. The role of DEFB123 in inhibiting the growth of Gram-positive bacteria is revealed. The ability of DEFB123 to bind LPS based on a Limulus amoebocyte lysate assay is also discussed.
