The article focuses on schools and the education they provide to students in the U.S. American schools are gradually changing over a period of years. People have rejected the thought that the teacher-dominated school provides the best learning situation for children. Youngsters are no longer expected to stay in their seats without moving for long periods of time, to listen to frequent lectures by the teacher, and to verbalize back information from one textbook. Both students and teachers must be able to deal with these changes, and if they are to do so adequately, the public schools must provide effective, creative leadership. Participation of youngsters in the planning, execution and evaluation of their work is an important factor. Media and several other innovations have helped to make today's children more knowledgeable, more informed, more aware of all that is around them. |
