Abstrakt: The article reports on a cross-cultural study comparing paternity confidence to actual paternity. Men who are sure of their paternity are more likely to be the actual fathers of their children, while those who have doubts have higher rates of nonpaternity. These results hold cross-culturally. Within the group of men with low paternity confidence, there was no differentiation in levels of actual paternity between those who were sure they were not the fathers of their children and those who were only sufficiently uncertain to seek a DNA test.
