Education in the USSR: Russian or Soviet?

Abstrakt: The article discusses whether education in the USSR is based more on Russian or Soviet Union culture. The similarities between the Tsarist and Soviet systems have often been emphasized by works on Russian education history. According to history writer Nicholas Hans, Soviet education is not really "Soviet" but is "Russian" and will remain such. William Johnson, another Russian and Soviet education history writer, recognizes that certain aspects of the Soviet educational system is not according to Russian tradition.
