The article presents a study that seeks to reveal and predict relationships between achievement and success within the audiotutorial (AT) method of instruction, and certain personal characteristics. Central to the investigation were three questions: (1) Are there significant relationships between personal traits and the dependent variables, achievement and success?; (2) Is there a differential set of personal characteristics for students who are high achievers and those who are low achievers and students who are high and low on both achievement and attitude?; and (3) How well does the battery make ex post facto predictions? With science and nonscience enrolled in an AT biology program as subjects, the study showed that aptitude is fundamental to determining success; but the effect is more clear in the negative. Low aptitude scores are closely related to low achievement. |
