Abstrakt: The article presents a study on the investigation of the conceptual structure and reasoning demands of elementary science textbooks at the primary level children in the U.S. Concept maps and suggestions between concepts are investigated regarding the Piagetian mental schema which is required for comprehension. Likewise, the outcome demonstrated several conclusions including that concept maps and conceptual structures vary across texts, the reasoning needed to comprehend the between-individual concepts is concrete, and that the reasoning demands are above the developmental capabilities of a large segment of primary-level children.
