The article cites a study which evaluates the needs of secondary school science teachers in the U.S. The Moore Assessment Profile (MAP) was used to assess the needs of the subjects who were ranked from a random sample of 300 secondary school science teachers in 21 school districts in Harry County, Texas. A factor analysis of the subjects' responses to the MAP was made to make a precise identification of the factors inherent to the needs of the subject. The analysis led to the discovery of the 26 factors, 20 of which are interpretable factors. An analysis of the 20 interpretable factors led to the assignment of factor need names which then led to the high priority factors. Finally, the study showed the high priority needs for teachers which include developing basic science skills. |
