Abstrakt: The article focuses on the changes computer-mediated information has brought to political campaigning in Australia. In 2004, there was a surge in the number of voters. The use of Internet, sms messaging and e-mail campaigning, unmediated responses to national events by bloggers, websites that offer alternative views, were responsible for the surge. However more information on politics doesn't essentially mean better understanding of politics. It is difficult to measure voters' engagement with the elections in Australia, as voting is compulsory there. The process in which services and information are directly given to the consumer by new communication tools, bypassing the old ones, is called disintermediation.
