Abstrakt: The article discusses the role of radiotherapy in various subgroups of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) brain metastases as well as the associated toxicities and outcomes. Whole-brain radiotherapy shows to be as beneficial for patients with brain metastasis from RCC as it is for other tumor types despite the radioresistance of the disease. Stereotactic radiosurgery has produced short-term local control rates. Higher medial survival rates were showed in surgical series of patients with good performance status and limited systemic and brain disease. Progress in neuroimaging and radiation biology have led to enhancements in the targeting and effectiveness of radiotherapy, especifically stereostatic radiosurgery. The emergence of molecularly targeted therapy is likely to prolong survival in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
