Abstrakt: The authors reflect on the catastrophe management strategy of the Furness General Hospital staff in England in time for the largest outbreak of legionnaire's disease in Great Britain in the summer of 2002. Compared to the mortality rate of a similar outbreak in the Netherlands, England had a lower mortality rate. They believe that this was because of the immediate recognition and appropriate management and not because of the low virulence of the organism.
