Abstrakt: The article presents a study which aims to elucidate the repertories of competencies within which a novice's growth was perceived as an important factor to effective science teaching. The Science Teacher Competency Sorting Instrument was used to random subsamples of science teachers, supervisors, and teacher educators. Science teachers and teacher educators differed in the emphasis given to factors pertaining to education. The paper has concluded by discussing some implications of the findings for secondary science teacher education.
