Abstrakt: | The article criticizes the literatures "The Devil in the Belfry" and "The Man That Was Used Up," by Edgar Allan Poe. Poe appropriates the figure of the confident man to parody the American paradigm of self-invention. The moral assumptions behind the paradigm of punctuality and self-making were implicitly challenged by popular writers. |
